International recruitment has made an important contribution to the adult social care workforce across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. As the immigration and sponsorship landscape has changed, the focus has increasingly shifted to supporting internationally recruited care workers already in the UK and helping providers manage sponsorship responsibly and ethically.
ESPIC has been at the forefront of this work locally through its highly successful Ethical Sponsorship Programme, delivered with local authorities, SESCA – the South East Social Care Alliance and voluntary and community partners. Through workshops and specialist webinars, the initiative has addressed sponsorship and compliance, employment rights, changing sponsors, workforce support, and the prevention of modern slavery and labour exploitation.

The Ethical Sponsorship Programme is a partnership initiative bringing together care sector representative bodies, local authorities, specialist support organisations and voluntary and community sector enterprises across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove.
