East Sussex Annual Care Awards – Nominations Guidance

Every day, an army of people go to work helping the most vulnerable people in our society. Help us to celebrate their amazing work, say well done and thank you!


Who Can Make Nominations?

  • People receiving care: Tell us about your carer(s) and the difference they make to your life.
  • Family members: If your loved one receives care, tell us about the team or staff providing it.
  • Care workers: Nominate a colleague, manager, or your service for exceptional support and leadership.
  • Care managers or owners: Highlight proud achievements of your staff and projects that made a difference.
  • Visiting professionals (e.g. GPs, nurses, social workers): Share how you’ve seen exceptional care delivered.
  • Public and volunteers: If you know someone who goes above and beyond in social care, let us know.
  • Self-nominations are also welcome!

How Do I Make a Nomination?

  • Complete the online nomination form or download this form and return via email to Administrator@espic.co.uk or post to:FAO: Care Awards Administrator,
    Oakdown House, Burwash Common,
    Burwash, Etchingham TN19 7JR
  • Choose the right category and describe your nominee to impress the judges.
  • Plan your statement in advance using the tips and examples provided.
  • Read all nomination rules and ensure your form is complete.
  • You will receive a confirmation email upon submission.

The Rules

  1. Deadline: 31st August 2025
  2. Accurate contact details for yourself, nominee, and organisation are essential.
  3. Complete the form and write a compelling statement explaining why your nominee deserves the award.
  4. Keep to these statement rules:
    • No logos
    • No external links (websites, social media, PDFs)
    • Include all material in your statement
    • Keep to 500 words max

Ten Top Tips for Writing Winning Nominations

  1. Read all supporting materials:
    • Category list
    • Nomination rules
    • ‘Made a Difference’ ideas
    • Outstanding behaviours list
  2. Choose the correct category.
  3. Plan your key messages and structure.
  4. Use specific evidence or examples.
  5. Use clear, impactful language from the behaviours list.
  6. Provide enough detail for informed judging.
  7. Be clear and concise.
  8. Stick to the rules.
  9. Ensure all contact information is accurate.
  10. Inform your nominee and their employer (if applicable).

These are the qualities judges look for. Use them in your statement with examples:

  • Inspires others, leads by example
  • Promotes a culture of excellence and learning
  • Communicates clearly and consistently
  • Pioneers innovative approaches
  • Supports independence and dignity

  • Bridges gaps between health and social care

  • Champions equality, diversity and respect

Making a Difference Ideas

Use these prompts to describe how care has made an impact:

  • Enabled someone to take part in new community activities
  • Helped develop communication skills and independence
  • Supported someone in pursuing education or relationships
  • Created a personalised care environment reducing incidents
  • Inspired by setting up activities or improving training

Include how the difference was made: support strategies, training, new initiatives, or leadership style.
